Geoffrey Canada, an influential figure in education and a prominent advocate for children, has dedicated his life to empowering young individuals from underprivileged backgrounds to thrive through education. His passion led him to establish the Harlem Children’s Zone, a comprehensive, cradle-to-career network of programs. Referred to by The New York Times as “one of the most ambitious social-policy experiments of our time,” HCZ began as a modest one-block initiative in the 1990s. Today, it supports over 34,000 students and families residing in a 97-block area of Central Harlem, New York City.
